Andrew Swearingen completed his undergraduate and MA degrees in Portuguese Studies at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. He is currently the holder of an AHRC DPhil studentship at Oxford researching imperatives in Gallo-Romance, with particularly attention on varieties of Occitan.

His main areas of interest include historical semantics and morphology with special regard to the Romance languages.

He is a member of The Philological Society, the Associação Portuguesa de Linguística and the Association Internationale d'Études Occitanes.
